Description:

Maryland small businesses have been very successful in obtaining funds from the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.  Over the past five years, Maryland organizations have received more than 1400 awards totaling more than $850 million.

However, an additional $19.5 million in SBIR funding is going largely unclaimed.  More than half of the MD SBIR awards allow optional supplemental funds for “Technical and Business Assistance” efforts or TABA.  These funds are designated to cover things like regulatory compliance, cybersecurity, and other legal and business issues more related to commercial applications than technical development.  TABA funds are typically in addition to the SBIR grant and can be extremely useful in phase I projects, allowing the addition of commercialization experts to the project well before scale-up issues can arise.  It is always tragic when a technical success becomes a commercial failure due to issues that could have been dealt with early.

Obtaining TABA funding is not automatic, and rules vary dramatically between agencies and between branches of the same agency. Join us at 10AM on October 10 to discuss the details of “How to Get Free TABA Funds”.
